HYPE was MET

Posted on: February 24, 2008 10:43 am

The  Tennessee vs Memphis game lived up to ALL the hype for sure. Both teams played very hard. Memphis and Tennessee  had a well-played and intense first half then the statistics of being the worst foul-shooting team  caught up with the Tigers , who made just 8-of-17 from the line Saturday night.  It is great that Tennessee was able to show some rebounding skills that pre game many thought Tennessee did not possess.

The VOLS  did not appear intimidated as Lofton said (paraphrased) this is something no one can ever take away from them and the fans beating Memphis and hopefully advancing to number one.

I have laryngitis and don't remember the last time I was at sporting event where so many sat in complete shock after a game. At least no one booed my orange after the game. Now Tennessee can enjoy this for today and have to get their heads together to play Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym. A tough place to play and one due to split loyalties where I will cheer plays not teams.

I do really want to see Tennessee win the SEC outright and how they play the rest of their conference schedule will determine whether they will.

HYPE was MET

Yeah I figured Tennessee had the SEC about locked up until I looked at the schedule. Vandy game is a trap game coming off the emotional high of beating #1 Memphis, and you know Kentucky will be ready. Then Florida and South Carolina are two young teams that non-SEC fans might think would be easily defeated by Tennessee, but these are two young, talented, dangerous teams. I know that Tennessee blew them both out in their first game against them, but that's just makes those games all the more dangerous in my eyes.

They have that one free loss without penalty right now, but the next couple of weeks could be interesting. Personally though I think that both Mississippi State and Kentucky will lose at least one more, and Tennessee will win the outright title.

HYPE was MET

I was very disappointed. Outside of a very thrilling opening 7 minutes, I thought the game was poorly played and seriously lacking in basketball fundamentals. I couldn't believe I was watching No. 1 and No. 2.

Memphis scored 21 of its first 29 points on 3s, and then scored only six points in the last 11 minutes of the first half. The Tigers showed no motion on offense. They just stood around and watched the guy with the ball either shoot a three or drive to the basket with no intention of passing. How can a No. 1 team shoot 58 percent from the line as a team? They will not win the NCAA title. I guarantee it.

Tennessee was definitely the better team, but they did not impress me either. The hype may have jangled the nerves of both teams. But I predict that Tennessee will not win the title either.

HYPE was MET

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this one.  I personally think that this game was over-hyped.  It could have been an awsome game, but both teams looked average at best.  I don't believe that either one played to their full potential.  I was sorely disappointed with this game.  I was already for an outstanding game, but all I got was a so-so one.  I like the Vols, but I couldn't believe how short the game fell with regards to the hype.  I have to say that I think the Wisconsin-Michigan St. game last night was a better game.
